2009 CHARDONNAY SIGNATURE SELECTION

Shrimp Scampi and Sushi Rice Bowl Are Winemakers’ Suggested Food Pairings

Bianchi Winery (Bianchi Winery and Tasting Room) has released its 2009 Chardonnay Signature Selection.  The announcement was made today by Beau Bianchi, President of Sales & Marketing for the family-owned, Paso Robles headquartered winery and tasting room.

From El Camino Vineyard, 100% of the Chardonnay grapes used to produce this wine came from the Santa Barbara County appellation.  The wine spent 10 months in new and seasoned French oak barrels prior to bottling early this past September.  A total of 2,630 cases were produced and the wine sports alcohol of 14.6% by volume.  The suggested retail price per 750ml bottle is:  $14.99.

Said Mr. Bianchi, “Thanks to the style of our winemaker Tom Lane, our Chardonnay is all about nurturing the natural flavors of the grape. I believe the profile of our 2009s are very similar to the 2008s when they were first bottled.  The wine started out with a big burst of tropical fruit and then with some bottle time, developed a creamy finish with subtle layers of spice.”  He added, “Chardonnay may very well be the most scrutinized wine in our portfolio.  I say this only because Chardonnay is my father’s drink of choice.  Historically he loved those big, buttered oak Chardonnays that some people incorrectly think is the only style produced in California.  But Tom’s style has slowly converted him into a lover of fruit-driven Chardonnays.”

Remarked Tom Lane, Bianchi’s winemaker, “As each vintage is unique and interesting, at least to us winemaker-types, 2009 was no exception. During the 2009 Chardonnay growing season we saw a much more harmonious ripening with sugars and flavors maturing together.  Not so in the prior year where sugars came on fast and we needed additional grapes on the vine hang-time to develop colors and flavors.”  He added, “The secondary Malo-Lactic fermentation did some rather amazing production for this vintage.  The result?  Rich buttery flavor that combined with a 10-month sur lies batonnage aging gave us a very mouth-filling bottle of wine.”

Mr. Lane suggests lightly chilling the 2009 Bianchi Chardonnay Signature Selection and serving it with a zesty shrimp scampi over jasmine rice, or paring it with your favorite sushi house’s sushi rice bowl.

About Bianchi Winery and Tasting Room

The Bianchi family’s roots in the California wine industry date back to 1974 when Joseph Bianchi and his son, Glenn, invested in a winery and vineyard on the banks of the San Joaquin River in the Central Valley of California.  Utilizing the most advanced farming and production technologies, the Bianchi family pioneered its way to producing award-winning wines and quickly grew to become an industry leader.

Looking to advance the family brand to another level in winemaking, Glenn eventually identified Paso Robles as offering terroir that met his specific needs.  In 2000, he purchased the 40 acres that would become the home of Bianchi Winery and Tasting Room, the fulfillment of his dream to provide guests with an awe-inspiring sensory experience.

Today the winery’s estate vineyards produce varietal grapes that are best suited for the rolling hills and dissected uplands of the heart of Paso Robles.:  Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Zinfandel.  The winery also produces popular wines from high quality sourced grapes grown in greater Paso Robles and along California’s Central Coast.  These include a Santa Barbara Chardonnay, Los Alamos Pinot Grigio, Santa Maria Pinot Noir, Monterey Sauvignon Blanc, Paso Robles Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc and Moscato as well as embracing the Bianchi’s Italian heritage with a Sangiovese, Barbera and the interestingly uncommon Refosco.

2009 SAUVIGNON BLANC SIGNATURE SELECTION

Sourced Varietal Grapes from San Lucas Vineyard Star in Each Bottle

Bianchi Winery (Bianchi Winery and Tasting Room) has released its 2009 Sauvignon Blanc Signature Selection.  The announcement was made today by Beau Bianchi, President of Sales & Marketing for the family-owned, Paso Robles headquartered winery and tasting room.

The majority (99.5%) of the grapes in the new vintage are Sauvignon Blanc from the San Lucas Vineyard in Monterey, California which spent six months in stainless steel tanks.  Some 765 cases were produced and the wine sports alcohol of 14.5% by volume. The suggested retail price per 750ml bottle is:  $12.99.

Said Mr. Bianchi, “Seeking perfect maturation and complexity, we source our Sauvignon Blanc grapes from the wilds of southern Monterey County.  The San Lucas Vineyards, due to the location, provide a buffer between the warmer central Paso Robles and the very cool central Monterey region.”  He added, “While just the right touch of traditional herbal grassiness is present, a beautiful balance is achieved as the fruit in this wine has fully developed on both ends of the varietal spectrum.  Citrus and just the proper hint of gooseberry.”

Bianchi winemaker, Tom Lane noted, “The transformational magic of Fermol Sauvignon yeast combined with stainless steel tank aging has generated and preserved the savage Sauvignon grassiness and sultry stone fruit flavors making each sip a bouquet of wonderfully magical layers of flavors.  In this instance we have a fruitier tasting wine, though not overly so, as the aromas were freed by our yeast friend’s esterase enzymatic activities.”  He added, “As anyone who has stopped by the winery for a chat has seen, I love effusing upon the virtues of yeast!”

Both gentlemen agree 100%:  The Bianchi 2009 Sauvignon Blanc + grilled Pacific Rockfish + a side of mango chutney + the laughter of friends = one really grand time.

BIANCHI WINERY RELEASES ITS HERITAGE SELECTION 2006 VINTAGE

Marks Launch of Winery’s First 100% Estate-grown Syrah

PASO ROBLES, CA, JANUARY 20, 2011 — Bianchi Winery (Bianchi Winery and Tasting Room) has released its 2006 Syrah Heritage Selection marking the winery’s first 100% estate-grown Syrah.  The Syrah grapes come from two Bianchi Estate ranches:  Sunrise and Creekside.  The release of the new vintage was announced today by Beau Bianchi, President of Sales & Marketing for the family-owned, Paso Robles headquartered winery and tasting room.

The Bianchi winery 2006 Syrah Heritage Selection spent 26 months in new French and season American oak barrels.  A total of 825 cases were produced and the alcohol by volume is 14.9. Suggested retail bottle price is:  $17.99.

Said Mr. Bianchi, “We’re very excited about adding a 100% Estate-grown Syrah to our overall wine portfolio.  The warm days and cool nights of the Paso Robles central upper bench-lands offer an excellent mesoclimate for flavor and color development.  The 2006 vintage provided us with a relatively small crop with very ripe, intensely colored and flavored grapes resulting in an expansive and delicious Syrah in the glass.”

Noted Tom Lane, Bianchi Winery’s winemaker, “Having this wine barrel-age for a lengthy 26-months tamed it just a tad while smoothing off the rough tannins and adding rich oak tannins and vanillins.  The near perfect structure of the 2006 makes it a strong candidate to put down in one’s cellar for a period of 5-10 years.”

Beau and Tom agree that the wait will be more than worthwhile —especially if you wind up pairing their Heritage Selection Syrah with a hearty Beef Bourguignon.  Bon Appetite!
